The Co Down championship titles will be awarded to highest placed finishes by Co Down resident players.

Venue: City of Bangor International Chess Club, Church of Ireland Parish Hall, 30 Main Street, Groomsport, County Down, Northern Ireland, BT19 6JR

10am to 5pm

Format: Swiss pairings

The event will run as one open section for U18 to U8s with age specific champions crowned at the end of the day, based on the highest placed finish. A separate adult section will also be held at the same venue.

This event is open to players from any county (i.e. you do not need to live in County Down to participate). There is a designated 'Junior Female Champion trophy', with all female players eligible to win this award.

Please note, all events at the City of Bangor Chess Club run on schedule, with all clocks starting at exactly 10:15. The time control is 10+5, therefore if a player fails to arrive within 10 minutes of the games starting, the player will lose the game when their time expires.

FIDE rules will apply. Remember mobile phones must be switched off and no food allowed in playing hall.

CHESS FEDERATION FEES:

Apart from tournament fees, remember to renew your ICU fees for the 2025/2026 season [1 Sept 2025 to 31 Aug 2026].

As per FIDE regulations, all players participating in a FIDE rated tournament must be paid up members of their National Federation, which in our case is the ICU which covers FIDE events in Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland.

€11.50 per child (free entry for extra players from same family)

Pairing Software: Swiss Master. This is not compatible with the Chess Results website but all rounds (including final standings) will be displayed on the giant flat-screen television in the main hall.

To enter please send your child’s full name, FIDE ID (if they have one) and exact age (as at 11 October) to event organiser/arbiter B. Jamison. Once payment is received, the player will be added to entry list.
